On October 23 and 24, the Estoril Conference 2024, organized by the Nova School of Business & Economics in Estoril, Portugal, became a key venue for addressing the most pressing global challenges.
This event brought together international leaders, leading academics and experts from 26 countries on topics such as sustainability, the ethical challenges of artificial intelligence and the human impact on the planet. Among the keynote speakers were José Ramos-Horta (Nobel Peace Prize 1996), Oleksandra Matviichuk (Nobel Peace Prize 2022), Tawakkol Karman (Nobel Peace Prize 2011) and Sir Richard Roberts (Nobel Prize in Medicine 1993).
In this context, academics from Universidad Panamericana participated in an exclusive event organized by the Digital Data Design Institute (D³) of Harvard Business School, where they presented projects in key areas such as artificial intelligence, sustainability and interdisciplinary innovation.
Universidad Panamericana’s Participation
The encounter, which included our scholars, an invitation-only event, brought together researchers and business leaders for the presentation and discussion of projects under development.
Dr. Marisol Velázquez Salazar, associate dean for research at the School of Business, noted: “This space allowed us to strengthen ties with institutions such as Harvard and Nova, in addition to exploring innovative models of interdisciplinary collaboration”.
While Dr. Román Rodríguez Aguilar, faculty professor at our university, emphasized the relevance of these dynamics: “Interacting as peers in this environment allowed us to link new technologies directly with business and society.”
For its part, Dr. Felix Martinez Rios, scholar at the School of Engineering, shared his experience: “It was an honour to exhibit my work before figures such as Sir Richard Roberts. These types of interactions reinforce our mission to align our research with international standards.”
Finally, Dr. Philippe Prince, researcher at the School of Law, highlighted the ethical approach to artificial intelligence, highlighting the analysis of Anil Doshi, assistant professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the UCL School of Management, on the perception of abstracts generated by artificial intelligence.
According to Prince, “The combination of young and experienced perspectives enriched the dialogue about ethical and collaborative challenges in academic research.“
